Workshop on Menstrual Health and Waste Management

Gaja Conservation Trust organised a workshop on menstrual health on 23rd July 2022 at Mangala School, Bandipur. A hygiene expert from Honnavar led the half-day session for girl students and their caretakers, focusing on essential health, hygiene, and wellbeing topics.

Topics Covered

  1. Menstrual hygiene and its importance.
  2. Understanding the menstrual cycle.
  3. Important dos and don’ts during menstruation.
  4. Common problems associated with the menstrual cycle.
  5. Types of menstrual hygiene materials and how to use them.
  6. Correct disposal of used materials.
After this session, a waste management session was also conducted for all children in the school.

World Elephant Day Celebration

On World Elephant Day, GCT conducted an awareness programme for tribal and village children in a school close to Bandipur Tiger Reserve. The session explained elephant conservation and the role elephants play in maintaining ecosystems in a simple, accessible way for young learners.

  2. Their role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
  3. Children shared their own experiences with elephants.
  4. Threats to elephants and how they can be minimised.
  5. A quiz session with the students.
  6. Distribution of basic school kits to the children.

School Kit Distribution – Golur, Nagarahole

Based on a request from the Golur tribal school, GCT, with support from its donors, donated basic items required for tribal children. Golur haadi is a tribal settlement inside Nagarahole National Park, where access to educational resources is limited.

Impact

  1. Provided essential school supplies to tribal children.
  2. Supported education in remote forest settlements.
  3. Strengthened community ties through conservation-linked outreach.
